Very useful item for camping or to keep in your car. It can be used as three different tools, a spade, a hoe or a pickaxe just by altering the angle of the head. Great design that folds neatly into the supplied pouch. It is nicely made in black powder coated steel throughout with strong metal fixings. It is an item for emergencies - not a full size spade for constant use - but it is certainly strong and adaptable enough to give you peace of mind and at a bargain price too.

This is a really good light weight and compact camping shovel which could also come in handy should a survival situation occur, would make an excellent paddle for example due to its size. The first thing I did with it was to teach my children how to prepare and make a camp bonfire using the spade to clear a suitable area and the pick to channel 3 air tunnels. The teeth on the side of the spade helped me strip the bark and then to further strip the fibres to make kindlin. I didn't light the fire using traditional scout methods as it takes a long time but I did with flint n steel that I have as a key ring.Certainly strong enough to dig small holes, you just need to remember to tighten and loosen the neck whenever your opening, putting it away or changing the tool from spade to pick. The design reminds me very much of a British army historic shovel.I can't remember the price of this shovel but I would still recommend it.

This is an amazing little spade. Folded up it has a square measurement of 7,1/2" x 4,1/2". It has a reasonably strong bag to keep it in with a Velcro fastener. In this folded up state it takes up no room at all. Opened up in to it's spade position it measures a square measurement of 18,1/2" long x 4,1/2" wide. Made from quality steel & well put together. The method of changing from folded up to open & useable state is real easy. There is a locking wheel where the shaft meets the blade, loosen this & the 4 parts that make up the spade just fold out & in to position, you just wind the locking wheel back down to the union of the shaft & the top of the blade & it's ready to use. The handle is nice & wide so you can get your whole hand in to the grip not just a couple of fingers. There is a support bar at the back of the shaft, first to give the spade extra strength but also it makes the shaft part a better size for your hand to grip. The blade of the spade has a good shape with a good point at the front but it also has a serrated edge on one side, not quite sure what I would do with this but it's nice to have it there. An excellent get you out of trouble or everyday use tool that's easy to take with you & at time of this review it cost £15.99 I think that's a great price for what you get & how useful it is. Highly recommended.

I was surprised by how study this shovel is. I have seen other version that have plastic handles but they didn’t look very robust, this one is all metal so seems much more resilient.It folds up small and comes in a little bag making it easy to store. Having the bag also means that it doesn’t make a mess of your car/shed after use.This is ideal for anyone going camping or just for general gardening.

I am not sure how long this would last if you actually were to use it as a real shovel.Whilst appearing to be generally well made, the material selection and overall strength seems quite low.The shovel blade is quite small, far smaller than the military tool upon which it's based which means you have to work harder to move the same mud and the rivets used to hold it to the frame seem undersized and likely to fail when used to any significant degree.The pin for the shovel head/pick fitment is a bright steel pin and nut construction, not a more secure rivet which may again suggest routes for early failure- in reality I suspect its' mainly for light work or a standby for the car-boot. Although it would have a good use digging holes in a beach so may also be useful for detectorists who don't need much leverage from a spade.
