UPDATE BELOW The reason for five stars is because it is a useful amp. Yes it has good sounds, easy to use, lots of features, lightweight, and has quite a lot of volume power. The pros vastly outnumber the cons, IMWO. There are reviews that complain about the power on/off switch being cheapo, seems to me it's ok, hold it down until the lights are on (like the instruction manual says). It's kinda hard to be precise on the tempo select, but a display would have added to the final cost. The tuner is indeed cheesy, but I think it was an afterthought that was added to the rhythm variation selector. Have not used batteries yet, but the ac adapter did not seem noisy to me, unlike other reviews. The amp models are surprisingly great at clean tones, but i am picky about distortion (I like a fuzzy angel fart sound, Vox likes cheesy 80s metal for some reason), although they may actually be good for other players. Some reviews say that the amp isn't perfect, and that's true, but it's got a lot of good things going for it. I will update this review soon, as I will be testing it at a truly harsh busking environment, the Fremont Street Experience.UPDATE UPDATE UPDATEField test observations....I went out busking at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas Nevada. This particular site is loud by most people's standards. Big aireal speaker arrays, lots of people too. Not football stadium or Motorhead concert or aircraft engine loud, but much much more than a nightclub or whatever. This little amp had power to spare, for real. So yah, it has got guts. The downside is the rhythm section cannot keep up with the guitar volume. Totally lost behind the guitar signal. Like half or more of the guitar volume. It's just one speaker, after all. So for high output busking, dont rely on the rhythm section. For home use or a quieter venue or pitch area, sure the rhythm works fine. It just wont get loud enough when the guitar amp volume is more than halfway up. But battery life seems good, its light to carry (the guitar strap buttons on the side of the cabinet are a nice touch). Decent busking or portable amp. I personally cant say much at all about the microphone section, i haven't used it. Price is good, maybe a little high, but it's a new product, to be expected. Kinda wish Vox's distortions were a little more "brown" or "fuzzier" or "farty-er". They like peppermint gum, I prefer spearmint.

With guitar playing being one of the only things in my life, I felt a sudden rush of sadness when my old beat up second hand Vox amp died a horrible death. The sudden shock of its lifeless corpse staring at me encouraged me to fork out for this VOX Mini5 Rhythm. It seemed to have a lot of features I was looking for and with a five month payment plan, I couldn't find a reason why I shouldn't.I purchased the VOX Mini5 Rhythm amp and started paying it off in £25 monthly payments. An offer from Amazon I thought was excellent. It certainly saved me from my emptying the bank account and the sudden slap from my wife when she found out. The amp was nicely wrapped up in two thick boxes. It appeared to be very well protected for travelling in the van and certainly looked unharmed when it arrived. I pulled the thing out the boxes and it was quite literally ready to go. No fussing around. Just plug it in, hook up the guitar and away you go. Pretty cool, right?Naturally, I went to go play some of my favourite songs and that's when I really looked at all the buttons and accessories. It's safe to say that I never actually got round to doing anything productive that day. If there's buttons, it needs to be pushed. Yes, I am one of those people. What does the amp feature? Well, I'm so glad you asked because I'm writing it out... NOW! The top row features the usual stuff like a gain, tone and a volume knob. It also has Amp pre-sets including some bluesy tones, rock tones and some beefy sounding selections for playing metal. The bottom section of the amp has the effects switches. These switches features effects like chorus, flanger etc with another under it that simulates reverb and delay. Right next to these two knobs are options for a built in drum machine and metronome. It features a wide range of settings including 8 beat, 16 beat, rock, metal, jazz, Latin and so on. If you turn it all the way to the right, it fires off a metronome. Each one of these features can be sped up or slowed down with the tempo knob and there's one to control the volume too. It produces a good level of sound and should be adequate for anyone intending to use it for practice. There's also an input jack for a microphone, great if you're a busker etc. You can also plug in a set of headphones, your MP3 player or even your PC in the Aux slot. A very good edition if you would like to practice without making too much of a noise like myself. I personally use this a lot late at night. I haven't had any problems with it. It works great with the metronome etc.The sound of the amp is obviously going to be the point of purchase for a lot of people. I would say that it doesn't sound as good as my old Vox amp. But it definitely has a good solid sound to it, once you've adjusted the settings a bit. There is a bit of compression in there and I can imagine some musicians are not going to like that at all. But it doesn't bother me too much and it actually sounds pretty good with my Steinberger headless guitar (yes, I'm one of those too), which has a bit of a compressed sound to it too.Obviously, if you're looking to record or perform at shows. You're not going to want to use this wee thing, though it would certainly hold it's own (to a point). But it is absolutely perfect for practicing around the house, with some chums or going to rehearsal rooms. It's a fairly light weight contraption, which makes moving it around no bother. Personally speaking, I really enjoy it and I would definitely recommend it for someone who needs a decent practice amp.
